Exclusive driving impression: New Holland Fast Steer Both clever and simple yet producing a staggering effect. That’s the New Holland Fast Steer system which enables the NH operator to put a tractor into full lock while only moving the steering wheel just a few degrees in either direction. Awarded a silver medal at the Agritechnica show we were given the opportunity of an early meeting with Fast Steer.

Get to the headland, lift up the implement, spin the steering wheel around three or four times to turn, then straighten up again, stop and select reverse. Shunt back, then into forwards, wind the steering around to the other lock, turn, straighten the wheels up again and back into work. Exhausting.

Now compare the above sequence with that of the New Holland Fast Steer. With his left hand positioned conveniently close to the shuttle lever, and pressing down on to the Fast Steer ring with his thumb, just the smallest of operator movements achieves exactly the same results. And, on top of that, this also leaves the right hand free to work a loader joystick or the firm’s Headland Turn Sequencer control. Indeed the reality is that Fast Steer makes the tractor feel even more manoeuvrable than the quoted turning circle statistics suggest, because the operator is more likely to use full lock when it is so easy and quick to access.
