An eventual successor to the proven Vision self-propelled sprayer range, Norfolk-based Sands Agricultural Machinery’s new Horizon model puts operator comfort and convenience at the top of its feature list. Not surprisingly, this means the Horizon gains an all-new cab.

After 41 years of manufacturing self-propelled sprayers, Sands Agricultural Machinery (SAM) is moving away from its trademark sliding cab door. In its place comes a sleek curved pane of glass, hinged on the front corner of an all-new cab that sits proudly on a new sprayer range — the Horizon. This latest introduction from the Norwich based British manufacturer was primarily driven by engine emissions, as the firm leap frogged Stage IIIB emissions to adopt the latest Deutz TCD6.1 power pack complete with SCR and AdBlue after-treatment. It was the jump from EU Stage IIIA to Stage IV that gave company boss Neal Sands and his team the opportunity to go back to the drawing board and create an all-new range of large capacity, high performance self-propelled sprayers.

“We could have easily started with the Vision and adapted it to take the latest clean emissions Deutz engine,” he explains. “But the cab was a 10-year old design and it really needed to provide more space and a higher level of operator comfort. My dream was to create a new sprayer with the best cab on the market. And that doesn’t always mean the biggest.”
