Driving impression: Case IH has invested ‘big time’ in the Maxxum MX – some £10m, to be more exact, recently spent on refurbishing its Doncaster plant and new Maxxum home. Here Andrew Faulkner drives the range flagship, the 135hp MX135, to discover whether Case’s latest offering justifies such a spend or is little more than the old Maxxum in new clothes
Same name, different game. Longer, taller and heavier, the new Case Maxxum looks a dramatically different beast to its predecessor, the superseded but still currently available Maxxum Pro.
Indeed, from the outside, the MX seems to share little with the old Pro – other than the Maxxum badge and those distinctively chunky, truck-sized wing mirrors. In machine sales’ speak, this tractor really does appear ‘new from the ground up’.
A main, immediately obvious, change from the rather squat Pro is the taller MX cab, which is noticeably quieter and incorporates more glass all-round. This significantly improves visibility in all directions, adding up to a near panoramic view.
