Driving impression: Valtra M150 tractor Motor mouse Valtra is on an ag tractor launch roll at the moment. First came the high hp S series then the mid-range six-cyl T line and now it’s the turn of its four-pots to get fresh – with the introduction of the M series. We drive the latest addition to the Finn’s family.
Four cylinders. What does that say? To traditional tractor men, it probably suggests compact build, manoeuvrability – a ‘mixed’ tractor. It also perhaps hints at a top-whack power of, say, 100hp. Maybe a tad more. But not much.
Now forget all of the above. For the Finnish tractor manufacturer Valtra has chucked out the previous pot rulebook, and hiked four-cyl power up to an ISO-rated 108kW/147hp. It may be a four-pot mouse in terms of its overall dimensions, but this is a mouse with one serious motor. In effect, the M series puts six-cylinder power within a four-pot type frame.
When compared, for example, with Valtra’s own six-cylinder T line-up, the Ms measure about 20cm less in wheelbase, are more manoeuvrable and are lighter. And, of course, the ultimate plus is that, hp for hp, they cost that much less to buy, too. The full M series lines up as below:
Model Power (ISO) Price
M120 85kW/115hp £43,700
M130 96kW/130hp £45,800
M150 108kW/147hp £52,000
