Vicon has learned a lot about its round baler line-up in the four years it has been pushing the Italian-built product. For 2015 the variablechamber models are enjoying a facelift, the key change being to their net application system
is four years since we looked at Vicon’s entry back into the round baler business with Italian-derived products. Since then Vicon has been getting its feet firmly under the table, with parent company Kverneland Group taking over the Italian baler facility lock, stock and barrel in 2013I. n the UK the baler market remains relatively stable with a total of 1,200 machines sold each season. Of these, 55% are fixed-chamber and 45% variable-chamber. The baler wrapper combi market is about 180 machines, while standalone wrapper sales tend to be in the region of 480 to 520 units.
David Furber, from Vicon UK, points out that the market was starting to see more people move to fixed-chamber balers to deal with grass crops, but improvements to variable chamber designs have largely seen this migration stop. The 1.65m diameter variable chamber baler has also become near enough the leader in the variable market, with users preferring the larger size bales for straw and then downsizing to 1.25m for grass crops. Mr Furber adds that while Vicon did lose some market share with the transition to the Italian-built product after Kuhn purchased the facility at Geldrop, the brand is once again growing its business.
