Claas has been marketing the current Orbis maize header up to a 7.5m working widths since 2019, and now offers models of up to 9.0m, with the launch in autumn 2020 of the Orbis 900 (profi 7/2021). Compared to the predecessor series, the main features of the latest Orbis models include a flatter cutting angle and the new sickle disc type of knives.

Back at the beginning of July 2021, in a field rye at the milky/soft grain stage, we were able to test the header’s ability in wholecrop silage, as an option for those who perhaps have only small areas of wholecrop to do and cannot justify a dedicated header. For a comparison with the 7.45m wide Orbis, we also used Claas’s specialist wholecrop head, the 6.0m Direct Disc 600 with hydraulicallyadjustable crop press roller
